BRJTF AWARDS 2ND SCHOLARSHIP TO IAN WU

Our second scholarship recipient, in March of 2023, is Ian Wu. Ian is a 15 year old

and has been playing since the age of 9. He is a FirstServeOKC junior player who

trains at the OKC Tennis Center and is coached privately by Phil Lancaster. Ian

competes in L6 to L4 events and he states that his forehand is his main weapon.

He is currently ranked 19 th in Oklahoma in boy’s 14’s and 56 in the USTA/MVTA. He

won the Boy’s 14 Sportsmanship Award at the USTA L6 event in 2022 and will begin

playing for Classen HS SAS this spring in OK 4A State competition. Ian says that,

“Tennis has opened more doors for me than I could have ever imagined. I make sure

that I always give 100% because I know I have what it takes to take that step to the

next level. This scholarship will really help me to travel to more tournaments and

meet new people, which would not be possible without it, creating relationships that

will last a lifetime.”

Scholastically, Ian holds a 4.0 GPA and won the 2022 MVTA NJTL essay award for his

essay on Arthur Ashe. He is a full time volunteer and camp counselor for FirstServe

and his favorite subjects in school are math and biology. Ian believes the BRJTF

scholarship will drive him closer to his tennis dreams and his long terms goals are to

play D1 tennis and attend medical school.
