FORMER ROMPF STUDENT AND FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBER VIVEK VARMA WINS GOLD BALL

Former Rompf/Summerfield Academy student and Foundation Board Member, Vivek Varma from Chickasha Ok and currently living in Mercer Island WA, has added yet another gold ball to his USTA titles collection (four gold, four silver and two bronze). Watch out Mary! Vivek and partner Rick Leach just won the USTA Men's 50/55 National Hardcourt Championships in Peachtree.

Leach, a former top US junior and USC standout, holds 5 Grand Slam doubles titles in men's and 4 in mixed, ranking #1 in the world in doubles in 1990. He is a full time teaching pro now in Southern California. He commented, “V and I love playing together. He’s a great friend and partner. We’ve been playing together for over a decade now. The competition is always tough in these tournaments so it’s great to get another gold ball”. Varma says he is playing the best tennis of his life - "I’ve still got a mindset that I can get better.  And for now my body is holding up!”

Vivek is a close advisor to Starbucks founder Howard Schultz serving as CEO of his investment, policy and philanthropic initiatives running his family office while also continuing as a senior advisor to Starbucks.  His sister, Kavita, also a Rompf student, is the Senior Editor for Today Parents.
